Beauty Products to Avoid for Acne-Prone Skin
The only thing worse than having acne is not knowing how to treat it, and finding out that the beauty products you’re using to treat acne are actually causing more breakouts. Keeping this in mind, here are some products you should definitely avoid when it comes to clearing up acne.
Skip the Soap
Acne can make your face feel dirty, so the most common thing to do is wash your face with soap. Unfortunately, the bad news is that soap can irritate your acne-prone skin, which leaves you with more acne. In beauty routine it’s actually better to use a cleanser specifically designed for the treatment of acne because fragrant soap is loaded with chemicals and pore-clogging toxins. Also, using your hands and lukewarm water is better than using a washcloth; scrubbing your face will irritate the skin, so gently massage your face and hairline with cleanser or gentle scrub. When you’re done, pat your face dry with a towel.
Starches to Avoid
A lot of makeup is made with cornstarch (sometimes called zea mays) or rice starch; for people with sensitive skin, cornstarch and rice starch can cause allergic reactions and irritate acne that’s already there. So when you’re buying makeup, look for pressed powder foundations and check the label to avoid products that contain corn and rice starch. You also need beauty products containing talc to avoid triggering an acne attack on your face.
Pomades, Gels, and Moose
If you’re getting pimples near the hairline, forehead, or temples, it could be that your hair products are the culprit. It seems strange, but some of the pomades and gels that we use are oil-based and can irritate the skin. Much like reading makeup labels, reading the labels on hair care items will help you avoid acne breakouts.
